First Things First
ok .
so i figured i start off with the most influential and reoccurring subject. Hip-Hop. Now alot of people tend to say that hip-op is dead and that rap itself is degrading and senseless . I dont agree with that for the most part because hip-hop isnt dead . what we classify as hip-hop is dead . We sit around watching BET and artists like young jeezy , lil wayne , rick ross , soulja boy , and shawty lo (just to name a few with hits right now) flood the airways . but then dont realize that not everything is hip-hop . thers hip-hop , then theres rap . to me hip-hop isnt just music its a culture . When i think of hip-hop i think of vets like KRS-1 , LL , NAS , Hov , Pac , Biggie , The Fugees , the pharcyde . thats who i think of when the word hip hop is mentioned , i think of kangol hats , the rope chains the boom boxes , a cypher between young men on a brooklyn stoop , 92.3 the beat (what it used to be for you youngins) power 106.0 , water fiights in the summertime while listnin to will smiths classic that just fit the situation . Or bumpin juicy on my way to venice beach , no clouds in the sky , no worries at all . im from cali , south central LA to be exact on the map (shot outs to all ma LA niggaz out there) and another picture that comes up when u say hip hop is being at world on wheels (a popular skating ring for the non-cali people) before it started to get shot up , with my custom made jordan skates sittin on the ramp and "this is how you do it" came on , i swear if the WHOLE place didnt run to that floor and sing the whole song unitl it went off loL . Spining around tryna impress the girls and the homies . but yea , were am i going with this? its the feeling , thats hip-hop , not the music but the feeling , and what declared alot of these artists as hip-hop artists was the feeling they gave you when their song came on , it was like o shit! drop everything this ma song . this is music , this is life , this feels good . If you have that hip-hop blood vessle runnin thru you then you know what i mean . the culture , the lifestyle , its hope . Hope for a bigger and brighter day , (not to sound all mushy n all) but honestly hip hop was a heart condition . It used to be something positive that was sweeping the nation , i mean look at this il give you an example , if your in the club , with yo niggaz or what have you and Juicy comes on , yo first thought is oooo shiiitt , you know? like man rememberin everything you was doin when you first herd this song , and everything youve ever done while listnin to it , your vibin wit yo people and everyone else who can relate to that element , because hip-hop is a feeling , that feeling is hope , and hope is contagious . evreyone wants that , but the problem today is , we look into our music on the radio now , and its all about the wrong things , we can sit here and say thats real music , thats whats really goin on in the hood , ma nigaz is dyin , but what do you FEEL when that music comes on , what type of spirit does that put you in? cuhz i know for a fact that for me , if some of the new shit comes on in the club its either music you swang to (ex: the dream) or its music you SWING on a nigga to (ex:too short , E-40 , 50 , dman near anybody) . alota songs now a days promote violence , but subliminally . For all ma LA niggaz , how many times has gucci manes "is you rollin/ pillz" shut a party down? exactly . loL . its all in the feeling the culture and music gives you .But my bottom line in this blog is to say , i not only love music , but i love hip-hop first and foremost , its the music for the oppressed , but optimistic. Hip-hop is alive , HOPE is alive in the black community . We just gotta let it live.
